NEW ORLEANS – With a gasp of disbelief, Anna Brittany Zaunbrecher of Acadia Parish, heard her named
called Saturday night as she was crowned 2008 Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen.
After a week of grueling interviews to test her knowledge of U.S. farm policy and
Louisiana agriculture, the brown haired, brown-eyed Zaunbrecher, 19, earned the
crown in competition with 25 other parish Farm Bureau queens Saturday night.
The event was the culmination of the 86th annual meeting of the Louisiana Farm
Bureau Federation here.
“I come from generations of Farm Bureau families," she said. " I know the
importance of agriculture to our state and to our nation."
As Miss Farm Bureau, Zaunbrecher begins a heavy schedule of events in the
coming year. Many Louisiana Farm Bureau queens travel up to 10,000 miles a
year in the course of their duties, attending dozens of Louisiana festivals, youth
activities and legislative events. Each year she travels to Washington, D.C., both
on Farm Bureau business and to attend the Louisiana delegation's annual Mardi
Gras ball.
Zaunbrecher is the daughter of Roy and Tammy Reppond. She currently attends
the University of Louisiana-Monroe majoring in pharmacy.
Kristi Badeaux, 19, was named first runner-up in the competition. The Nicholls
State University student represented Lafourche Parish. She is the daughter of
Tyrome and Zita Badeaux.
Second runner-up in the contest was Jessie Elizabeth Breaux, of St. Martin Parish.
The Breaux Bridge High School cheerleader is the daughter of John and Liz Breaux.
The only award determined by the contestants themselves is Miss Congeniality.
Kaitlyn McManus, of Franklin Parish, was honored with that award.
The Louisiana Farm Bureau Queen's Contest is sponsored each year by the
Louisiana Farm Bureau Women's Committee.
