NEW ORLEANS –  Ronnie Anderson, a beef cattle producer and forage grower from Ethel, La., has been
reelected president of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation.

Anderson, 60, begins his 20th term as president of the state’s largest general farm organization.  His
reelection took place during the Farm Bureau’s 86th annual meeting here.

“It’s an honor to serve the Farm Bureau and its membership,” Anderson said.  “Our members take a lot of
pride in this organization and I know our volunteer leaders have worked hard to bring us to where we are
today.

“This is a critical year for agriculture,” Anderson continued.  “Like everyone else out there right now farmers
are facing higher energy costs and higher input costs.  Although commodity prices are high, a lot of that will
be tempered by what it costs farmers to raise and harvest their crops.”

The Farm Bureau also elected four other members of its executive committee.  The Farm Bureau board of
directors is made up of a five-member executive committee and an 11-member board of directors.  Each
member is a production farmer, actively engaged in agriculture.

Those elected Sunday to the Farm Bureau’s executive committee were Jim Harper, first vice president.
Harper is a cotton, rice and sugar farmer from Rapides Parish.  Scott Wiggers, a grain and cotton producer
from Fort Necessity, in Franklin Parish, was elected second vice president.  Wiggers, a member of the
Farm Bureau board, replaces Bryan Mitchell, a dairyman from Bossier Parish, who announced his
retirement this month after 30 years of service.

Linda Zaunbrecher, a rice farmer from Gueydan, in Vermilion Parish, was reelected third vice president,
while Jackie Theriot was reelected Farm Bureau secretary-treasurer.  Theriot is a sugar producer and
sugar trade specialist in St. Martin Parish.

Members of the Farm Bureau’s 11-member board of directors serve in two-year terms.  Even-numbered
districts are elected in even-numbered years.

Serving farmers in District 2 will be Doug Duty, a cotton and grain producer from Ouachita Parish, while
farmers in Central Louisiana will be represented by Leonard “Buddy” Pierce Jr.

Farmers in south central Louisiana will be represented by Phillip Lamartiniere, while Mike Melancon, of St.
Martin, will represent farmers in the Acadiana area.  Greg Gravois, a sugar grower from St. James, will
represent producers in South Louisiana.  William Stutts, a grain producer from West Carroll, will represent
farmers in District 3, in Northeast Louisiana.

Six members of the Farm Bureau board will continue their service through 2009.  Serving farmers in
District 1, in the northwest part of the state will be Dean Graner, a dairyman from DeSoto Parish.
Serving District 5, in Central Louisiana, will be G.A. Holaway, from Vernon Parish, while District 7, in south
central Louisiana, will be represented by Whitney Baccigalopi, a cattle producer from Cameron Parish.

Farmers in District 9 will be represented by Walter Smith, a cattle producer from Washington Parish, while
District 11 will be represented by sugar grower Tom Ellender, of Terrebonne Parish.

Elliot Colvin, a cotton and grain producer from Rayville, in Richland Parish, was elected chairman of the
Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee.  Denise Hymel, a sugarcane producer from
Gramercy, in St. James Parish, was reelected chairman of the Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership
Committee.  The YF&R chairman and the Women’s Committee chair serve as ex-officio members of the
Farm Bureau board of directors.

The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation wrapped up its convention June 29.  More than 1,000 farmers
attended the annual event.  The Farm Bureau is a non-profit, private volunteer membership organization of
Louisiana farmers and ranchers.
