Louisiana Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee
It’s been said charity starts at home.  I can
tell you it also starts at the farm gate.
For years the Farm Bureau Women’s
Committee has reached out to nearly every
sector of Louisiana’s diverse culture, be it
food banks, ministerial associations, social
service organizations or consumers.

For farm women it’s been a way to not only
promote agriculture, but to help those who
can benefit from what farming provides to
every Louisianian everyday.

For me and other members of the Farm
Bureau Women’s Committee, commodity
promotion and community service go hand-
in-hand.  It’s part of the reason your
Louisiana Farm Bureau formed a Women’s
Committee all the back in 1965.  Since
then farm women have changed and so has
the goal of our committee.

Each year parish Farm Bureau Women’s
Committee members from across the state
formulate the best approaches to
community service.  Input is garnered from
committees statewide and presented at our
annual Spring Meeting.  Throughout the
year state and parish women’s committee
members participate in a variety of
education, outreach and promotional
programs.

The first week of February is usually
National Food Checkout Day.  It’s the day,
usually around Feb. 5 or 6, when Americans
have earned enough money to pay their
food bill for the remainder of the year.
Farm Bureau women usually celebrate this
day with food donations to needy
organizations.  The same is true in June
when we recognize National Hunger
Awareness Week.

Throughout the year Farm Bureau women
are involved in local parish activities,
traveling the state to promote commodity
and outreach efforts.  Our sponsorship of
youth activities during the Farm Bureau’s
annual state convention has been a
hallmark of out commitment to the next
generation of farm families.

I would invite you to join our efforts.  Each
year our ranks grow stronger.  But there’s
still much to be done.  For information on
how you can become a member of your
local Women’s Committee, contact your
local parish Farm Bureau office.
