Each year the State Committee sponsors four contests, Young Farmers and Ranchers
activities at convention, a raffle (which is a fundraiser for the Ag in the Classroom and
Louisiana Farm Bureau Foundations), and a statewide Young Farmers and Ranchers
Leadership Conference.

The highlight of the Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee is the selection of the
Achievement Award, Excellence in Agriculture Award, Discussion Meet, and Outstanding Young
Farm Woman Winners. These awards are sponsored annually by the Young Farmers and
Ranchers State Committee. You must be partially or actively engaged in farming to enter any of
these contests.

Louisiana Farm Bureau conducts a Young Farmer and Rancher Achievement Award annually.
Selection of the winning families and recognition of their occupation as a full time farmer and
for leadership achievement helps build our organization.

The Excellence in Agriculture contest recognizes individuals that show significant achievement
and leadership in some facet of the agriculture industry.

The Discussion Meet is a contest designed to simulate a committee meeting where
discussion and active participation are expected from each contestant. The contestants
discuss a preselected topic.

The Outstanding Young Farm Woman Award is a program designed to recognize young Farm
Bureau women for outstanding achievement. The role of women in agriculture has changed a
great deal. This program was developed to recognize their efforts and promote leadership
development.

The Young Farmers and Ranchers Awards programs begin at the parish level. Each parish
Farm Bureau selects a young farmer or rancher between the ages of 18-35 to participate in the
Achievement Award and/or Discussion Meet. These parish winners then compete at the state
level where a state winner is selected. Each of these contest winners attends the American
Farm Bureau convention where he/she competes for the national award.

Each contest has a tremendous prize package and the contests deadline is June 1st each
year. For more information, entry forms, etc. contact your parish Farm Bureau office.
