WLC Leadership Conference

  • Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel 7000 Bluebonnet Boulevard Baton Rouge, LA, 70810 United States (map)

The Women’s Leadership Committee is excited to host another Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation WLC Conference open to all volunteer leaders!   In addition to a premier leadership event, we are excited to offer each registered guest a special gift with the Farm Bureau Federation logo to commemorate their trip.

Join us in Baton Rouge for two days of tours, great speakers, and meals to bring together volunteer leaders from across the state of Louisiana.  We hope to provide value to our members with agricultural education, fellowship, and learning sessions.

We will be meeting at the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel (7000 Bluebonnet Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70810; (225) 215-7000).  They seamlessly blend Southern hospitality, upscale décor and convenient amenities. Retreat to your spacious, modern hotel room or suite featuring luxurious bedding, a flat-panel TV and mini-refrigerator to store your favorite snacks. When hunger strikes order, room service or head to our hotel's our on-site restaurant for an upscale dining experience. During downtime here in Louisiana, exercise at our 24-hour fitness center and take a swim in our outdoor pool. Discover the difference at Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel.

On Friday, we will begin with a tour of the grounds and agricultural enterprises at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola. The Louisiana State Penitentiary is the state’s oldest and only maximum-security prison and, as such, a much sought after tour for school groups, churches, and criminal justice professionals. Tours of the Penitentiary grounds serve to educate the public on the history of the prison as well as the current reentry, rehabilitative and moral initiatives implemented over the last several decades, which helped to transform Louisiana State Penitentiary from “the bloodiest prison in America” to a model prison for onsite faith-based and vocational training curriculums. The historical and educational bus tour includes a visit to the museum, the historic Red Hat, and a drive past the six prison camps that sit on the 18,000-acre piece of property that is known as Louisiana State Penitentiary.

We will kick Saturday off with breakfast and our closing sessions. Our keynote speaker will be Kiki Fontenot, an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences for the College of Agriculture and the LSU AgCenter. She teaches agronomy and horticulture. Outside of the classroom, she helps school, home, and commercial producers grow better vegetable crops. Most recently, she has authored the Louisiana Urban Gardener: A beginner’s guide to growing vegetables and herbs, published by LSU Press.

A tentative agenda is attached, but please be sure to like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/WLCLA/ and check back periodically as we continue to publicize featured speakers and workshops.

Rates for this conference are $245 (single occupancy) and $175 (double, triple, quadruple occupancy).  This fee includes lodging, transportation, tours, and meals. THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MARCH 10!  Registration for this event, and future events, will now be done online.  You may register attendees for your parish athttps://form.jotform.com/LFBF/2023-wlc-conference .
